1. What was his vision of NYC? Where did he get his idea of NY?
-He thought new york would be violent, just like in the rap music.

2. Tell me what you think NYC is like. Why?
-I think NYC is like downtown SD but bigger

3. How come he had no idea what winter was? Where did he learn about winter from?
-In his country there's no winter, he learned about snow in American Christmas movies.

4. Describe how he felt when he first felt NYC weather.
-When the cold wind hit him he tightened up, couldnt feel his face, and his nose ears etc felt like they were gonna fall off

5. Snow and cold, lots of cars were huge culture shocks for Ishmael because he never
experienced it, tell me a tell where you experience culture shock!
-When i go to Mira Mesa or another middle class place, it suprises me because everything is quieter, cleaner, and theres stuff ive never seen before.

6. Where are they staying?
-they are staying at a YMCA hotel

7. What other children are there as well?
-There are children from twenty-three other countries

8. Why was he baffled by the food? Why do you think it was hard for him to adjust.
-He didnt know any of the food there, it was hard for him to adjust because he was use to his native foods

9. What did he learn about some of the other children there?
-He learned that some people there had a difficult childhood as well

10. Who is Laura Simms? Describe her and her job.
-Laura is one of the facilitators but she calls herself a storyteller, she enjoys working with the under privileged kids

11. Why didn’t he accept the winter jacket? Would you?
-He didnt want the winter jacket because it was a girls jacket. but if that was me and i was cold, i would have took it

-He talks about seeing Lights all over the place, shows playing on big screens, and store windows with merchandise in it.

13. What was the conference about? How did he feel about the conference?
-The conference was about sharing information about there country, and he loved to here different thing these people go through

14. What is Ishmael speech about, what is your favorite sentence from his speech?
-His speech was about his experience and hope that the war would end. my favorite sentence is "i joind the army to avenge the deaths of my family and to survive .."

-Yes because an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind

-i think Laura is going to invite him to come live with him

-He is not in the army no more, he uses his head now
